IS has released images of the militants who killed a Kurdish Peshmerga fighter, captured a few days ago in a major military operation in the north, and captured three more people, including a child.
In an apparent attack on the Kurdish forces, the jihadists are reported to have shot and killed a Peshmerga soldier.
It is the latest in a series of military operations that have killed more than 3,000 people in recent weeks.
In the latest incident, the militants took control of the Kurdish-controlled town of Sinjar in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, where they were fighting the Peshmerga.
The Peshmerga, which is also known as the Peshmarga militia, were fighting IS in the area at the time.
In a statement released on Twitter, Kurdish security officials said they had captured “the last remaining terrorist group” in Sinjar, adding that the group was “taken to a nearby base.”
The security forces also said that they had taken “control of the headquarters of the militant group and its commanders.”
They said that the militants had been captured “in the last 24 hours.”
